Two months ago, the Uganda Skateboard Society, in partnership with the Uganda Skating Federation, organized the national park and street Olympic qualifiers. The best skaters were invited to represent the country in all of the upcoming world skateboarding tours, which will qualify them for the 2024 Olympics to be held in France.
However, the team was supposed to travel a week before the event. Due to a delay in visas and funds, the team was able to travel after a one-day quick fundraiser. As a result of traveling on the last day of a three-day practice, the athletes missed all three days of practice, so they competed straight in the qualifiers upon arrival.
It was an incredible experience for Bukenya Brian and Mwesigwa Douglas to compete against the world’s top skaters like Jagger Eaton, Yuto Horigome, Chris Joslin, Kelvin Hoefler, and so many more.
The team was run by Gose Gerald, the national coach of the Uganda skateboarding team.
In June, the next world skateboarding tour will take place in Italy Rome, and the team needs more brands and companies on board to support them so they can compete in all the qualifiers, and ultimately qualify for the next Olympics in Paris, which will be held in France next year.
